Kmart shopper's shocking find inside $18 coffee grinder prompts quality control 'concerns'
It's not the first time theories have emerged about what else Kmart customers might be using the coffee grinder for.
A 'concerning' discovery inside an $18 coffee grinder bought from Kmart has prompted staff in store to apologise to a shopper. The incident has called into question Kmart store's quality control when it comes to returned products being resold.
Customer Taz told Yahoo her partner bought the product from their local store, but when it got home, it became clear that someone else had already used it — and not for good. Taz claims that the product had a "pungent smell" and thought that it looked like whoever had returned the item had allegedly put "marijuana" inside it before it was returned to shelves to be resold.
It's not the first time that Aussies have suspected the product has been used for something other than coffee, but Kmart has not responded to multiple queries from Yahoo News.
The couple, who bought the popular coffee grinder from Kmart's store in the Sydney suburb of Casula, were "not happy" and said that after taking the item back to the store, staff "just apologised and processed the refund".
While Taz could see the funny side of the ordeal, she was left wondering "how does this happen and how could they not smell it when it was returned?"
$18 coffee grinder's condition raises quality control concerns
Customer Taz said that the condition of the product was "quite a concern", and raises questions about in-store quality control. She believes that the item was "not properly checked" before being put back on the store's shelves.
"The substance [inside] is marijuana and has a pungent smell," the customer claims."Whoever returned it also tried too scrap remnants of the remaining dust out of it," she said.
But not only had the product already been used, Taz explained that the wires were exposed and "looked to be covered up with playdough."
Taz said that she was able to get the item refunded with "no hassle" and received an apology for the inconvenience.

Aussies say Kmart staff 'don't even check' returned products
After sharing the ordeal online, many fellow Aussies said that Kmart staff "do not check items before taking them back".
"They don't even look which is how this happens," said a second Kmart shopper. "I'm betting it was taped up and sold again."
Another described the discovery as "disgusting' while another pointed out that it was "definitely not used to grind coffee."
Yahoo News has contacted Kmart for comment on this specific incident.
