Kmart fan's $20 dog bed hack stuns in 'clever' DIY job

A Kmart fan has left online DIY enthusiasts stunned this week, after she shared a very simple, but very clever hack for creating outdoor furniture on the cheap using an unlikely item from the budget retailer.

Kayla Bourne took to Facebook to share her stunning job on an outdoor day bed, revealing that rather than forking out the $500 the items typically cost, she had cobbled together her own version for just $78.

How did she do it? Using none other than Kmart’s popular dog beds and some wooden pallets from Bunnings.

Yep, your pooch’s favourite pillow is just a DIY away from upping your outdoor furniture game in a big way.

Sharing snaps of the stunning finished product, Kayla wrote that she and her partner came up with the clever idea when they were looking to build a comfy outdoor setting but didn’t want to spend big.

“My partner and I wanted to get a day bed for our deck but didn’t want to pay $500+ so we came up with the idea to get pallets which we painted (free) and added Kmart dog beds to it!” she wrote.

“Best hack, they’re so comfy, look great and with a couple of extra added Kmart cushions, we only spent $78. Now one of our favourite spots in the house. Thanks, Kmart!”

Kayla placed three of the beds, which retail for $20 apiece, on top of a double stack of pallets to act as a cushion, placing another pallet lengthways against the wall to act as a headboard.

Finally, a smattering of pretty cushions and a cosy throw finished off the job – too easy!

The final product left onlookers stunned, and determined to give the smart hack a go themselves.

One called it ‘clever’, another ‘genius’.

“That is fantastic, I think I will do that!” one lady wrote.

“Awesome idea!” another agreed.

“How smart it this!” was another’s reaction.

“Wow, Kmart dog beds for pillows how clever,” one blown-away fan wrote.

It’s not the first time a clever budget-lover has turned an unlikely product into a DIY masterpiece.

One woman’s incredible interior design DIY skills left people in awe earlier this month after she completely transformed a simple Kmart timber bench into something much more stylish.

Michelle took to Facebook to share photos of her new creation, and it was quickly flooded with comments praising her efforts.
