Kittens saved from certain death after being dumped in a bin

Five kittens have been saved from certain death after they were senselessly dumped in a bin in Adelaide.

The kittens were rescued by chance after they were abandoned in a close bin behind a car in the suburb of Woodville Gardens and are now being nursed back to full health.

The driver of the parked car only heard the kittens cries as she attended went to the rear of her vehicle.

“We’re really thankful that she actually went out to her car and needed to go to her boot, because I don’t think she would have actually seen them if she had just reversed,” RSPCA’s Joanne Taylor said.

The kittens were covered in dirt and showing signs of heat stress. There was merely remnants of rotting food for the cats to survive on.

“I mean if they hadn’t been found they would have died in there and that’s heartbreaking,” Ms Taylor said.

“They deserve to have a good life.”

They were assessed by a vet and are now in the care of the RSPCA.

Once the kittens are healthier they will be placed into foster care, until they are old enough to be adopted.

The Lonsdale shelter has taken in more than 300 unwanted kittens in the last two months, and with Christmas rapidly approaching it’s urging people to think carefully about giving pets as a gift.

“They’re nothing plastic, they’re living creatures and it needs to be a thought out process,” Ms Taylor said.

“We’d just rather you bring them into a shelter than dump them in bins.”

The RSPCA said pet owners should also de-sex their animals to avoid unwanted pregnancies.
