Horrified family find limp kitten inside washing machine after cycle

A kitten has used up several of its nine lives after becoming trapped in a washing machine during a full wash – including a spin cycle.

Poppy’s owners, from Launceston, Tasmania, were horrified to find her inside the machine at the end of the 30-minute cycle.

Incredibly, the six-month-old cat was still alive but her family raced her to the Animal Medical Centre in the town’s CBD to be assessed.

Posting on their Facebook page, the animal clinic said Poppy was lucky to escape without serious injury.

“Understandably Poppy was freezing cold, rather bruised and battered, sore and disorientated but believe it or not, no broken bones!

“After 2 days resting on fluids Poppy felt much better and was able to go home to her eager family,” the post read.

Poppy’s family told ABC they had been looking everywhere for her before they found her in the washing machine.

“I didn’t see the kitten anywhere [but] she must’ve been somewhere close by and jumped in as I moved the baskets and put another load of washing in,” Kim Burr said.

Ms Burr said Poppy would’ve even gone through the spin cycle, and initially thought she was dead when she found her.

“I thought her neck was broken, she was limp, she wasn’t breathing [well],” Ms Burr said.

“The kids were just hysterical, and they’re still traumatised by it.

At a follow up appointment, veterinarian Dr Lisa Reynolds confirmed Poppy had recovered well and was “back to her cheeky self”.

Earlier this week, Sydney firefighters rescued a cat that became wedged between two buildings.

The cat was stuck so tightly, emergency crews were forced to break through the brick wall to free the animal.
