Kimberley residents warned of bushfires

STAFF REPORTER

Kimberley residents have been warned about several fires burning in the region, including a blaze that has burned through about 34,000 hectares of bush north of Broome.

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority this morning issued bushfire advice for people near Cape Leveque Road, about 100km north of Broome and south of the Beagle Bay community.

The blaze is slowly moving away from Cape Leveque Road.

Motorists have also been warned about smoke along the Great Northern Highway from a second fire at the Brooking Springs Pastoral Station.

The fire, which is believed to have been deliberately lit, is about 70km west of Fitzroy Crossing and is moving in a northeasterly direction.

Neither blaze is a threat to lives or homes.

FESA has also warned about smoke from several bushfires in remote locations in the eastern Kimberley.

The worst affected locations are Gibb River Road between Mount Barnett Roadhouse and Kununurra at Gibb River, Ellenbrae and El Questro pastoral stations, and Great Northern Highway north of Halls Creek near the Turkey Creek Roadhouse.
