KFC now using DRONES to deliver your food
We've all been there. Sat waiting at home for a food delivery that is taking an age to arrive.
In a hangry state, you take a look at the app to see your delivery driver is on a push bike and has taken the wrong turn.
Well a small sample of Queenslanders are now waving goodbye to such nightmare scenarios with the expansion of new technology that is designed to speed up the time it takes for your food to go from the restaurant into your belly.
Teaming up with chicken giant KFC, Australia's first on-demand drone delivery service Wing is delivering the fast food chain's menu direct to homes and workplaces in Logan.
While the rollout is limited to Kingston, Logan Central, Slacks Creek, Underwood, and Woodridge, the company plans to expand well beyond the initial offering.
“We’re always looking for ways to enhance the customer experience, so we’re thrilled to be teaming up with Wing to provide the Logan community this Aussie first,” Kristi Woolrych, CMO KFC Australia, said.
"Given the last 18 months, Australians have relied on delivery more and more, so it’s great to be making life easier for fans who want to get their hands on KFC in a flash."
A separate 'cloud' kitchen has been developed to prioritise KFC drone orders ensuring customers' food is with them in a matter of minutes.
Wing has already made 100,000 deliveries in the Logan area in 2021 as the pandemic led to a higher demand for contactless services. Its fastest delivery to date was in just 2 minutes and 47 seconds.
Wing's drones have a retractable tether that lowers the food to the delivery destination as it hovers about seven metres above.
They can hold up to 1.5kg of food and travel up to speeds of 110km/h.
Customers simply download the Wing delivery app from the App Store or Google Play to order.
