Kate's 5 fun things to do in and around Waterloo region this weekend: Jan. 10 to 12

It won't be quite as cold this weekend as it was earlier this week, which means it might be a good time to get outside and enjoy some winter activities like skiing at Chicopee, cross country skiing at a local conservation area, tobogganing on a neighbourhood hill, going for a hike or skating at an outdoor rink.

City staff in Kitchener were flooding a section of Victoria Park this week for a rink near the clock tower. If all goes according to plan, the rink is expected to be open on Sunday.

The K-W Titans basketball team is not playing this weekend. Their next home game is Jan. 19.

The Kitchener Rangers are busy with three games this weekend, two of them at home. On Friday, they host the Brampton Steelheads. Then on Saturday they're on the road to take on the Barrie Colts. Sunday they're back at The Aud to host the Saginaw Spirit.

The Guelph Storm are on the road this weekend with games in Flint, Mich., on Friday and against the Soo Greyhounds on Saturday.

Music Weekends

Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m.

Downtown Guelph

Music Weekends are back. It's an effort to get people into local businesses and supporting local musicians during what is typically a slower time.

This weekend, Scott Wicken with Les Armstrong are at NV Kitchen and Bar Saturday afternoon while Miranda Journey and Mikalyn Hay are at Red Brick Cafe on Sunday.

Music Weekends run through to mid-March.

Cambridge Memorial Hospital open house

Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Cambridge Memorial Hospital

The hospital will open up parts of its newly renovated space, including the new diagnostic imaging department, laboratory, endoscopy suite as well as two inpatient units.

The self-guided tours will take about an hour to 90 minutes and there are stops along the way with videos and experts. The tour ends in the cafeteria where there will be an innovation fair and information booths.

Together We're Boisterous comedy show

Saturday 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

TWB Brewing, Kitchener

It's an evening of improv, stand-up comedy and even burlesque at this 19+ show. There's tiered pricing and tickets are required. The event is organized by Pinch Cabaret.
