Kate and William's big move that left Charles 'in the cold'
Two royal experts have claimed a decision Kate Middleton and Prince William made early on in their marriage left Prince Charles feeling ‘left out in the cold’.
The royal couple uses a country home, Anmer Hall, out in Norfolk, in the far east of the United Kingdom, where they enjoy holidays with their three children.
Prince Charles and Camilla of course famously keep their country house in Highgrove in the south-western county of Gloucestershire.
The properties couldn’t be further apart by the island nation’s standards, a four hour drive, and the very distant choice reportedly left the future monarch feeling stung.
“He was shocked and a little saddened that William and Kate decided that their country house should be in Norfolk, a very long way from Highgrove in Gloucestershire,” expert Tom Quinn told a Channel 5 documentary When the Middletons Met the Monarchy.
“It sort of left him slightly out in the cold.”
It’s not just their physical distance that rubs the grandpa the wrong way either.
When it comes to the grandkids, there’s reportedly another thorn in Charles’ side, namely the amount of time George, 7, Charlotte, 5, and Louis, 2, spend with their maternal grandparents.
“There is a little tension sometimes about who gets to see the grandkids most,” Jenny Bond told the documentary.
“Catherine will always turn to Carole for help, advice, guidance and just get-togethers with the kids possibly before she would get together with Camilla and Charles.”
The revelation comes after another source of royal family tension was aired in public this week, after it was claimed that Meghan Markle’s name was removed from son Archie’s birth certificate, reportedly per a palace mandate.
A month after Archie’s birth in 2019, Meghan’s first names ‘Rachel Meghan’ were removed from his birth certificate to leave ‘Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex’.
On Monday, a spokesperson for Meghan told Page Six: “The change of name on public documents in 2019 was dictated by The Palace, as confirmed by documents from senior Palace officials.”
However, on Wednesday a source inside the palace refuted the claims to the MailOnline.
“The certificate was changed by the former office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. It was changed to ensure consistency of the name and title of the Duchess with other private documents”.
Another insider told The Telegraph that the changes were made by the Sussexes US team and something has been “lost in translation”.
“These are civil documents, there is no protocol,” a source said.
