Eight-year-old boy's kind act to comfort child on first day of school

A heartwarming photo of two boys on their first day of school went viral when one of their mothers shared the story behind the image.

The photo shows the two eight-year-old boys, Christian and Connor, dressed in their uniforms with their backpacks on.

Christian’s mother Courtney Moore shared the photo to her Facebook page. The post had 27,000 likes at the time of publication.

Ms Moore said her son approached another child who was crying in the corner.

Christian then took his hand and walked the other boy into school.

“I’m so proud of my son, he seen (sic) a kid balled up into a corner crying, so he went to console him, grabbed his hand and walked him inside of the school,” the mother’s post said.

“It is an honour to raise such a loving, compassionate child! He’s a kid with a big heart, the first day of school started off right.”

After posting the photo, the mother of the boy who was crying, Connor, chimed in – praising Christian’s actions.

Connor’s mother also asked Christian’s mother to thank him.

The mother said she worried about Connor, who is autistic, and she feared her son would get bullied for being different.

“Tell your son I said thank you so very much,” Connor’s mother said.

“That little boy he helped is my son and is autistic, I worry everyday that he is going to get bullied for being different and your son just absolutely warmed my heart.

“If there were more children like him I wouldn’t worry about such things.”

In an exchange between the two mothers, Ms Moore said her son also struggled with speech, saying both the boys were special in their own way.

Connor’s mother said she hoped the small gesture was the start of a new friendship.

Since the post has gone viral, people are praising not just Christian, but his mother too.

“Thank you for raising a wonderful, compassionate child,” one person wrote.

“We need you both.”

“We need more kids like your son in this world,” another person said.

“He’s an example of how much of an amazing mother you are.”
