DETAILS OF THE KANGAROO ISLAND BUSHFIRE:

* Two people confirmed dead: pilot Dick Lang, 78, and his 43-year-old son, Clayton, a surgeon

* More than 155,000 hectares blackened including large parts of the Flinders Chase National Park

* Major property damage expected, including damage to tourism and other infrastructure

* About 300 people waiting at a relief centre in Kingscote for passage back to the South Australian mainland

* About 600 properties remain without power with SA Power Networks warning it may be some time before crews can access the fire ground to assess damage

* Islanders asked to limit water use because of damage to a water treatment plant

* The luxury Southern Ocean Lodge on the west coast closed after suffering structural damage, but no reports of injuries

* About 500 firefighters to continue to battle the blaze over the weekend with fresh crews and extra resources brought in from the mainland

* Three fire trucks damaged after crews endured frightening burn-overs

* A watch and act warning remains in place with the fire expected to burn for several more days

* The eastern edge of the fire extends from the west of Vivonne Bay on the south coast to Stokes Bay on the north coast.
