Kamala Harris Announces Suspension of Presidential Campaign

US Senator Kamala Harris announced on December 3 that she was suspending her campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination, citing a lack of “financial resources” to continue in the race.

Harris released a video statement shortly after her announcement, in which she said, "I’ve taken stock and looked at this from every angle, and over the last few days have come to one of the hardest decisions of my life.

“So here’s the deal, guys. My campaign for president simply doesn’t have the financial resources we need to continue.” she said. “I’m not a billionaire. I can’t fund my own campaign. And as the campaign has gone on, it’s become harder and harder to raise the money we need to compete.”

Former Vice President Joe Biden, the front-runner in the race, reacted to the announcement at a campaign stop in Iowa, praising Harris as a “first-rate candidate” and saying he had “mixed emotions” about the news. Credit: Kamala Harris via Storyful
