Junta probes Turnell over secrets breaches

Myanmar's ruling military is investigating Australian economist Sean Turnell for breaches of the country's official secrets act and immigration offences and would continue to allow his family to talk to him, an army spokesman says.

The economist, who was an adviser to Myanmar's ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi, is currently being detained in the country.

The Australian government has called for the release of Sean Turnell, who was detained on February 6 following the coup five days earlier that led to the arrest of Suu Kyi.
