Jules blasts reports of 'diva demands' at MAFS wedding
We’ll soon be getting a glimpse of all the glitz and glam from Jules Robinson and Cam Merchant’s wedding, with an A Current Affair special due to air on Tuesday night.
But in the meantime, a number of rather less flattering reports have been circulating about what was going on behind the scenes of the Married at First Sight couple’s big day.
According to the Daily Mail, the reality TV stars looked into getting the fire brigade to temporarily block off the road leading into their inner-city Sydney reception venue ahead of their arrival so they’d have a clear path in. That same insider accused the couple of instructing staff inside the venue, Alpha restaurant and Beta bar on Castlereagh Street, ‘not to talk to either Jules or Cam', with 'only managers' permitted to address them.
However, Jules herself has blasted those rumours, telling Yahoo Lifestyle they’re completely untrue.
“No one was asked to do anything of the sort,” she said, “And as for the staff, we have relationships with them all. And they were all amazing and we are so thankful for our day being nothing but perfect.”
Strict rules
Weddings are stressful events at the best of times, and trying to comply with protocol for a television special makes things a little more complex.
It’s said that guests needed to sign a non-disclosure agreement and were given a number of rules in the lead up to the wedding in order to secure the TV deal with Nine.
One guest complained to Woman’s Day last week, “Not even Meghan Markle and Prince Harry would have this many rules for their wedding!” although we remember that the Duchess of Sussex actually did cop a lot of heat for the way her wedding was being organised.
Bridesmaid drama
Adding to the drama on Monday was former bridesmaid and co-star Melissa Lucarelli, who took to Instagram to say she was left feeling hurt and embarrassed after being dropped from the bridal party at the last minute.
“Yes the rumours are true,” she said, “Yes Jules dumped me as a bridesmaid. No I wasn’t at the wedding event of the year”.
“It just came out of the blue and yeah, I didn’t see it coming at all.”
“Of course, you’re allowed to change your mind about who you want as a bridesmaid but I just feel like the way it was done was really cold and rather hurtful, especially doing it so close to the actual wedding day.”
A preview of the ACA special shows Jules surrounded by five bridesmaids, including fellow MAFS star Heidi Latcham, who was later seen dressed in a white bridesmaid gown.
White has continued to be a popular colour for bridal parties since Pippa Middleton wore it to Kate and Wills’ royal wedding back in 2011. Jules chose strapless, column style dresses for her bridal party, with similar ones currently on offer by Flynn Skye, ASOS, and Shona Joy for between $150 and $280 each.
Keeping the costs down
Meanwhile, the bride herself is said to have worn a princess-style gown for the ceremony, before changing into a different dress for the evening reception. She was photographed leaving the venue in a more casual, printed dress.
It’s been suggested that the couple received a discounted rate for their reception due to the ACA coverage, but there are also a number of budget wedding dresses currently on the market that can help couples cut costs.
Showpo founder Jane Lu recently wore a $300 design for her big day, with the brand now stocking a number of styles in that price range.
Another thrifty bride saved money on her wedding last year by slashing $500 off her floral bill with fake flowers from Kmart, while a third bride managed to plan her whole wedding for just $800 using some cost-saving hacks.
