Jrue Holiday, other former Pelicans sending supply trucks to help Louisiana after Hurricane Ida

Jrue Holiday, Jahlil Okafor and several other former Pelicans players are all coming together to send truckloads of supplies to New Orleans and southeast Louisiana to help after Hurricane Ida ravaged the area last month, they told ESPN on Thursday.

Jrue and his wife Lauren, Okafor, Langston Galloway and Frank Jackson pledged to send four trucks of supplies full of generators, gas cans and gift cards, according to ESPN’s Andrew Lopez. The trucks are set to arrive this weekend.

"We will always consider New Orleans home for us and the people have always supported us through our most difficult times and it's our job to do the same," the Holidays said in a statement, via ESPN.

Hurricane Ida hit New Orleans and the surrounding area late last month as a Category 4 hurricane. It killed at least 12 people in the state and left thousands without power. Many rural areas in the region are still without power, and may be that way through the end of the month. Remnants of the storm hit the Northeast last week, too, and killed at least 43 people as flooding and tornados hit the region.

Tulane had to move its season-opener against No. 4 Oklahoma from New Orleans to Norman, and the Saints will play their season-opener against the Green Bay Packers in Jacksonville this weekend. New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell said earlier this week that she expects the team can host its second home game of the season back in the city next month.

Holiday played for the Pelicans from 2013-2020, and averaged 17.6 points and 6.8 assists per game over that span. He signed a four-year contract extension with the Bucks in April, shortly before he helped lead them to their NBA Finals win and then Team USA to a gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics.

Okafor played for the Pelicans from 2018-2020. The 25-year-0ld spent last season with the Detroit Pistons, and is set to enter the final year of his deal with the franchise this fall. Jackson played alongside Okafor in New Orleans and was also with the Pistons last year.

Galloway, a Baton Rouge, Louisiana native, played for the Pelicans for the majority of the 2016-17 season, spending 55 games there before playing the final 19 with the Sacramento Kings. He played last season with the Phoenix Suns.

"Louisiana is home for Langston and I, so when Hurricane Ida hit, we knew that, although our hometown was spared, our friends and families in the neighboring parishes needed us to show up move than ever," his wife Sabrina told ESPN. "Community is who we are, and working in our community is what we do. This tragedy is no different. It is extra special to team up with our NBA family to make a greater impact."
