Jon Jones stuns UFC world with bizarre Rob Whittaker offer

Light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has offered to help train with Aussie middleweight champion Rob Whittaker for his expected bout against Israel Adesanya.

Whittaker is set to take on New Zealander Adesanya in a unification title fight later this year, despite the bout yet to be announced.

But Jones has had a war-of-words with the Kiwi on social media for some time and speculation a bout between the two could eventuate.

However, Jones doesn’t think Adesanya moving up a division to face him would be a good idea.

“I think he’s [Adesanya] done good,” Jones told Fox Sports.

“But I’m no Kelvin Gastelum. I’m a lot different to Kelvin Gastelum and if Kelvin can come that close to beating him, I’m not too worried about him.”

Jones thinks Whittaker has the tools to defeat his Kiwi rival in the ring.

But he still offered to help Whittaker train for the bout against the interim middleweight champion.

“So, I believe that Whittaker can win the fight, and if Whittaker needs help training for the fight, I’d love to help him,” he said.

Jones will take on Thiago Santos at UFC 239 on 7 July.
