Blake Shelton Talks About 'The Voice' Season Continuing on in Upcoming Weeks

From Good Housekeeping

Update, April 21, 12:21 p.m. ET:

Now that the knockout rounds are over, The Voice is gearing up for the live show portion of the competition. Despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, NBC is moving forward with the singing series. But instead of having the coaches and remaining contestants in a studio, everyone will be judging and competing remotely.

“Obviously the live shows are coming up here in a matter of weeks. Especially in L.A. we’re not going to be ready to have events again," Blake Shelton told Jimmy Fallon on April 13. "It’s gonna be crazy. We’re gonna have to coach like this … it’s gonna be nuts.”

Blake also added that he thinks the shutdown has given producers enough time to figure out how the show can go on for the rest of the season.

“I think they have a plan and they’re gonna tell me when to be at the computer," Blake revealed. "And I’ll listen to (contestants) I guess, perform, and give ‘em some pointers. I don’t know.”

Live episodes of The Voice are scheduled to begin on May 4.

When season 18 of The Voice premiered, fans were excited to see coaches Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Nick Jonas go head to head. But in light of the coronavirus pandemic, viewers can’t help but wonder if The Voice will be canceled.

Luckily, coach John shed some light on the upcoming schedule in an interview with The Associated Press. The good news: The Voice has pre-recorded episodes that will air until the end of April!

That being said, the “All of Me” singer isn’t sure if the next part of the show will happen. After the blind auditions and battle rounds, the live shows give fans the opportunity to vote for their favorites in a number of different ways. But as of right now, this is still up in the air.

“There were only three weeks of live shows planned and those were for May. So who knows what we’ll do?” he told the news organization. “I don’t know if we’ll be able to do them without an audience. I haven’t spoken to the producers about what the plans are.”

He continued: “And I think everybody’s playing things by ear because we don’t know where the world’s going to be in May. But if we can do those shows in May, that’d be great. Possibly without an audience, that would be understandable. But, you know, if we can pull it off, then that would be great. We’ll see if that’s doable.”

In conclusion, fans can happily enjoy new episodes for the next few weeks and cross their fingers for the lives shows to happen!
