Mum charged with killing son, 8, was on antidepressants, court told

A woman charged with murdering her eight-year-old son requires a daily dose of antidepressants, a Melbourne court has been told.

Joanne Finch, 41, briefly faced Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday for a filing hearing charged with the murder of her son Brodie Moran on Thursday.

Homicide squad detectives attended an address at suburban Tootgarook on the Mornington Peninsula on Thursday afternoon following a call to Ambulance Victoria and the subsequent discovery of the child.

Finch was taken into custody and remanded overnight.

The court on Friday was told it was her first time in custody, and that she required a daily dose of the antidepressant drug Effexor.

Finch did not apply for bail and will reappear in court via video link for a committal mention on June 29.
