Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck led the best dressed couples at the Met Gala 2021

Watch: The cutest couples of the Met Gala 2021.

Fashion's biggest night, The Met Gala 2021, is back and the stars certainly snatched the opportunity to pull out all the sartorial stops.

While there were some pretty special individual fashion showings, take a bow Emma Raducanu and Billie Eilish - the couples didn't disappoint in the style stakes either.

Of course the designer you're wearing is important when rocking up to an A-list do, but carrying equal weight is who you're walking the red carpet with, particularly when you're vying for a spot on the best dressed couples list.

Here's our pick of some of the best (and worst) fashion pairings on last night's red carpet...

Having made their official back-together appearance at the Venice Film Festival over the weekend, Jennifer Lopez continued this week's winning fashion run in a deep plunging Autumnal-hued dress by Ralph Lauren, which offered a modern luxe take on the wild west in keeping with the American Independence theme.

Her new slash old beau let his other half shine, but still looked dapper in a classic tuxedo.

The couple added to their headline grabbing points by stealing a kiss while still in their face masks. COVID-19 safety first.

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky

Leading the way for the fashion forward were Rihanna and boyfriend A$AP Rocky who chose some pretty outlandish outfits for their red carpet debut as a couple.

While Rihanna kept it classic in terms of colour, opting for serene black, she let the shape of her outfit do the talking in a custom Balenciaga coat/dress, with huge ruffled collar and floor skimming train.

Opting to match his girlfriend in the voluminous stakes, rapper A$AP Rocky chose an oversized quilt coat, bringing a pop of multi-colour to the pair's unusual ensemble.

Later the rapper ditched the coat, in favour of a sleek suit with diamond embellishment.

Hailey and Justin Bieber

In contrast to the RiRi/Rocky eye-catching offering, the Biebers opted for understated simplicity. Hailey Bieber looked unusually demure in classic black velvet gown from Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello that skimmed her svelte silhouette.

Her husband, on the other hand, chose a boxy black suit by La Maison Drew (an extension of his Drew House label) paired with custom, painted Nike Air Force 1's.

Though the couple looked undoubtedly chic, we must admit we were expecting a little more drama from the typically fashionable pairing.

Kit Harington and Rose Leslie

Making a rare appearance on the red carpet together, this Game of Thrones pairing certainly got the thumbs up fashion-wise. Leslie's canary yellow Oscar de la Renta tulle dress gave a sunburst of colour, while husband Kit Harington looked chic in a monochrome Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello dinner suit.

It may have been the couple's first appearance at the iconic event, but they certainly looked right at home with the fashion famous.

Shawn Mendes and Camilla Cabello

Arriving hand in hand at the prestigious event, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello clocked up some serious style swag.

Mendes opted for a bold open shirt look, which revealed some pretty enviable abs, while Cabello sported an eye-catching purple sequinned ensemble by Michael Kors, which featured a daring thigh-high split and came with a feathery, well, we're not quite sure what.

They may be young, but Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz can certainly compete with the more practised couples on the fashion circuit.

While Peltz looked picture-perfect in a fairytale-esque pink, lace gown by Valentino Couture, Beckham kept it simple, yet chic, in a black Valentino suit and tie combo.

Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum

While they didn't actually appear on the red carpet together, speculative hot new couple Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum were rumoured to have reunited inside.

Kravitz joined a wave of other celebrities opting to put their own take on the 'naked' dress in a stunning barely-there gown by Saint Laurent, while rumoured beau Tatum, 41, looked typically handsome in a sharp-looking tux, proving they're a total match made in fashion heaven.

While neither has yet confirmed their coupledom, we're totally living for the potential pairing.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West (sort of)

When Kim Kardashian arrived on the Met Gala red carpet, she set the Internet alight and not purely because she wore a totally bizarre outfit that covered her entire body - including her face.

The reality star was also seen posing alongside a man in matching attire, that fans originally suspected could be her estranged husband Kanye West.

But turns out the mystery man was actually Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia, the creator of Kardashian's buzz-worthy ensemble.

You know what they say, the couples that red carpet together, stay together. Maybe!
