Jelly cups recalled over ingredient that can 'plug your throat'

Jelly cups sold at Asian grocery stores have been recalled over an ingredient that could “cut off an air supply” when swallowed.

The mini jelly cups contain the Asian plant konjac, which is often used as a gelatin substitute and is banned in Australia.

The ACCC warns the sweets, sold at grocery stores in both NSW and the ACT, “can act as a plug that cuts off air supply”.

The food recall said konjac does not dissolve easily when eaten and therefore poses a risk to consumers.

Consumers should not eat the jelly products and instead return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
