Strictly's Jamie Borthwick has admitted he felt "healthily disappointed" after his latest performance on the BBC show.

The EastEnders actor and his pro partner Michelle Tsiakkas danced the Argentine Tango on Saturday's show. However, the judges had some criticism, with Shirley Ballas saying their performance had a "stiff feeling", and they ended up joint bottom of the leaderboard with 30 out of 40.

Speaking on Strictly's spin-off programme It Takes Two, Borthwick revealed he wished the panel had appreciated it more.

He told host Janette Manrara: "I felt healthily disappointed is how I am describing it, after Saturday.

"Mainly because we'd had such a fantastic week doing it, with lovely Leandro and Maria, our Argentine Tango choreographers who I fell in love with last week, and whilst they said that they were very happy with what we did, it would have just been nice to have had the kind of appreciation from the judges and for them to like it."

He went on: "I totally understand what they were saying about one or two little balance issues whatever, kind of had that all week. Nonetheless I still loved last week, I loved the Argentine Tango."

However, the pair avoided the dance-off, which ended up being between Wynne Evans and Shayne Ward, who was eliminated.

As the dancers who had got through to Blackpool Week were read out, Borthwick revealed he was surprised when he and Tsiakkas were mentioned first. "When our name was read out first I was like, 'Wow!'" he said. "I don't think we have ever been read out first, ever."

"Do you know what it showed me?" said Tsiakkas. "That people are voting and honestly it makes me so grateful because we were at the bottom and we got through and it means that we are making people happy and giving people joy and that's what we want to do."

"And I just want to say thank you and we love you all," added the dancer.

This weekend the pair will dance a Jive in Blackpool. Borthwick admitted he was feeling "sore" amid their rehearsals. "I know about it in my thighs and in my quads!" he laughed.

"It's like, really sore, flicking the old legs in the Jive. But do you know what, this is a total contrast to last week. And we are having a right laugh."

Strictly: It Takes Two airs on BBC Two at 6.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One at 6.45pm on Saturday.
