Fans of James Corden’s wildly popular Carpool Karaoke series - in which he drives a celeb guest around the streets of LA - have been left outraged by footage that suggests the Brit funnyman doesn’t actually drive the car at all.

The footage, captured and uploaded by a Twitter user on Thursday, shows the Late Late Show host and pop star Justin Bieber in a black SUV that’s being towed behind another vehicle with a camera mounted on the front.

“Saw James Corden and Justin Bieber filming carpool karaoke and this is why I have trust issues - he isn't even driving!" the user, @ZoliHonig, wrote.

“Next thing you know they gonna tell us that his friends don't *actually* need a ride,” they joked in reference to the premise of the segment which sees James offer his famous pals a lift.

Another Twitter user appeared to verify the sighting, sharing a photo of the pair in the car - which is clearly mounted on a trailer - while stopped in traffic.

“Lol I saw it too,” @avrumim wrote, adding that the vehicle was ‘surrounded by police motorcycles’.

Many fans jumped into the Twitter thread to share their disbelief, with one branding the Emmy-award winning series a ‘lie’.

“Lol my life was a lie. I thought he drivessss,” they wrote.

Others weren’t surprised by the revelation, putting it down to smoke-and-mirrors movie magic.

“Lol this is how most of these shots are done,” said one.

Another was adamant that James’ undermined the entire essence of the show.

“That’s cheating your supposed to drive the car,” they said.

One quick-witted user joked that Carpool Karaoke could perhaps be renamed, ‘Car-pull Karaoke’.

Others defended James, sharing snaps they’d taken of the comic filming episodes with the likes of Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and boy band One Direction where the car wasn’t being towed.

“Y’all when I saw One Direction filming Carpool Karaoke James was actually driving,” wrote one.

“Ok but the one with lady gaga is real, and she actually drove,” pointed out another.

“When I saw him filming in 2017 with Katy Perry he was driving!” said one.

Former guest, 30 Rock star Jane Krakowski, claimed James was actually in control of the wheel when she took part in a special Broadway edition of the show in New York, so the evidence isn't entirely conclusive.
