'Disgusting': Ivanka Trump slammed for tweet on 'callous' Covid lockdowns

Ivanka Trump has been slammed for a tweet in which she claims Covid lockdowns are “not grounded in science”.

Sharing a video of a business owner who refused to close his establishment to abide by public health orders, US President Donald Trump’s daughter accused politicians of ruining lives.

“These blanket lockdowns are not grounded in science,” she tweeted.

“These arbitrary rules imposed by callous politicians are destroying lives.

“It is just wrong for small business owners to have fight so hard to keep their American dream alive.”

There’s no doubt businesses around the world have suffered due to Covid restrictions and lockdowns.

However, Ms Trump’s tweet comes after the US records over 307,000 Covid related deaths since the start of the pandemic, according to Johns Hopkins data.

The coronavirus has run rampant across the US, which leads the world in confirmed cases with over 17 million.

Ivanka accused of denying science

The tweet was inundated with comments criticising Ms Trump’s stance.

“But denial, minimalising, lying and avoiding responsibility helps, along with super-spreader events. Disgusting,” one man wrote.

Another person wrote: “None of this would even be happening if you had listened to the scientists from the start...”.

“But you didn't and now... hundreds of thousands are dead and things are happening in local communities that seem chaotic. Don't blame them for the chain of events you started.”

Author Kurt Eichenwald pointed out no one wanted the lockdowns in response to the tweet.

“Your family blew off promoting masks, social distancing, doing ANYTHING other than encouraging mass infection and herd immunity that would never come.

“Lockdowns are the alternative that’s left when Trumpers refuse to do anything to help.”

Many also pointed out that Ms Trump has no science or medical qualifications and should not be commenting on whether lockdowns were scientifically sound.

People also pointed out there is a chance if Ms Trump’s father, President Donald Trump acted on advice in January, the man in the video wouldn’t be in the situation he is in.

While lockdowns can have a damaging impact on individuals and businesses, they can be utilised to stop the spread of Covid-19 within the community.

Perhaps the most savage response came from Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.

“It will never stop amazing us that in the midst of the worst pandemic in a century, rather than turning to doctors and scientists, the closest advisors to the president were his fashion-brand owning daughter and her slumlord husband,” CREW tweeted.

“This is why we need tighter nepotism laws.”
