'It's not hard': Anti-vaxxer's vow despite mum fighting for life

An American anti-vaxxer has vowed not to change her stance despite her mum fighting for her life in hospital after catching Covid during a girls' trip in Las Vegas.

Amanda, who uses the name @iseeupan on TikTok, posted footage of her mum struggling to breathe despite wearing a ventilator to the platform over the weekend.

“Covid is NOT over, please say a prayer for my mother, she’s currently in ICU fighting for her life. Stay safe,” the woman captioned the video.

The short clip shows Amanda’s mum on the girls' trip, which marked the TikToker’s 32nd birthday, before cutting sharply to the woman immobile in a hospital bed.

In the comments Amanda said her mum, sister and sister’s girlfriend all fell ill with Covid after the holiday.

Clark County, which is home to Las Vegas, currently has a high level of community transmission, the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports.

“We were both bound to our home for over a year and wanted a break it’s just unfortunate she got the s**t end of things,” Amanda said, adding that her family is unvaccinated.

TikTok users were quick to point out to Amanda that it was highly likely they would get the virus by travelling to a Covid hotspot without the vaccine.

“Hope she gets better but like girl what did you expect?” one woman said.

“It’s their fault for being careless. No one said covid was over. It’s your job to take the necessary precautions,” another wrote.

“It’s almost like this was avoidable,” a man commented.

Numerous people shared stories of their own loved ones dying from Covid and urged the family to get vaccinated.

“Get the vaccine. Best wishes for your mum but this is exactly why we need to encourage our families to get it,” one user said.

Despite her mum’s condition, Amanda said she is still against vaccines.

“No one is safe, yeah I’m anti-vaxx but I do believe fragile people like my mum should get the vax [sic]. Immunity is everything. This is why I came back from Vegas Covid-free. Health is wealth people. It’s not hard,” she wrote.

One commenter said they just “didn’t know how” Amanda could watch her mum in hospital and still be anti-vaxx.

“I know and you NEVER will understand, if I was gonna get sick wouldn’t I have, along with my mum and sister? No because I don’t need a vax [sic] to be saved,” she responded.

“My immunity is enough. I said it once and I’ll say it again, prioritise your health first so you don’t need to stick a needle in your arm cuz the gov [sic] says so.”

The video has gained more than 121k views and more than 3,000 comments.
