The first foundation I ever truly lusted after was Maybelline’s Dream Matte Mousse. I was in my early teens, and just discovering make-up, and the adverts made this foundation seem like the pinnacle of beauty.

Sadly, reader, I never did get my hands on that foundation. I only started to wear foundation after high school when I invested in a MAC bottle, which served its purpose well throughout my first couple of years of university. But, even then, I never felt truly comfortable in full coverage.

I should preface this with saying I’ve always been relatively lucky with my skin. Sure, I suffered from hormonal face pimples as a teenager, and still tend to get some breakouts around my chin to this day, but I never faced acne, eczema or other skin conditions.

Which is why I think I was so drawn to a colour correcting (CC) cream. A CC cream is a mix between a tinted moisturiser and a foundation, but with so many added benefits. The first time I heard of IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream I was sitting in a glossy magazine’s office speaking to the beauty editor. I was an intern at the time, and she told me this is the stuff she swore by and offered me one of her samples.

It was love at first blend, and it’s been my one beauty constant for the past decade since. Here’s why:

🛍️ Reasons to buy

First of all, this CC cream is so incredibly light. It glides onto the skin and blends seamlessly with your natural skin tone and texture. It’s much lighter than a regular foundation but still adds a full, more sheer coverage, so it’s ideal for those who want some coverage but not foundation level.

As well as concealing dark spots and minimising the appearance of large pores (something I need all the help I can get with), this CC cream has an array of skin nourishing ingredients too, such as hydrating hyaluronic acid, collagen and vitamins, so I feel as if it’s benefitting my skin rather than clogging it up.

One of my favourite additions to this CC cream, however, is that it has SPF 50+ sunscreen in the formula, and a 'broad spectrum mineral' sunscreen at that – meaning it protects against both UVA and UVB rays. Living in England, I’m often so forgetful about putting on sunscreen so at least I know that my face is semi-protected when I’m wearing this CC cream.

IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream also comes in 14 different shades, and tends to blend right into your own skin tone, meaning you’re not left with those annoying unblended patches if you’re in a rush. For someone like me, who mostly works from home and only puts on make-up a few times a week, the tube lasts for around a year before needing to be replaced, which I think makes it a bang for my buck.

✋ Reasons to avoid

The main reason to avoid this CC cream would be if you prefer an opaque full coverage look, i.e. you don’t want any of your natural skin to shine through (which is completely OK!). Another downside would be the higher price if you are using it quite regularly and go through it more quickly.

The only reason I haven’t given this a 5/5 is that I have combination skin that tends to veer towards oily and this CC cream can sometimes leave my skin feeling a bit shiny in hot weather, which I don’t love. So if you’re after a more matte look this probably isn’t the CC cream for you.
