Israeli army says shooting attack thwarted

The Israeli army says it has thwarted an attempted shooting attack in the occupied West Bank and "neutralised" the assailant, with a military spokesman confirming the suspect was dead.

The attack took place at Hativa Square, south of Nablus. The army did not report any injuries.

The army said it was investigating the circumstances of the incident.

Israel seized control of the West Bank and East Jerusalem during the 1967 Six-Day War. The Palestinians claim the territories for their own state, with East Jerusalem as the capital.
