Girl wakes from induced coma after deadly jellyfish sting

A 14-year-old girl has woke from an induced coma after she was stung by one of the world's deadliest jellyfish in Western Australia.

She was stung on Monday by an Irukandji jellyfish when she about 40 minutes from Dampier, near Goodwin Island.

The teen was rushed back to shore by boat and then put on a flight to hospital.

Much to the relief of her family, the girl is now out of intensive care at Princess Margaret Hospital in Perth.

WA Country Health said it’s the first Irukandji case this year.

Symptoms of being stung by a Irukandji jellyfish include kidney pain, back pain, nausea and vomiting.

Irukandji jellyfish are only small, about 1cm, but are extremely venomous and can kill.
