WATCH: Motocyclist's death-defying tunnel ride

A man has managed to defy death at high speed after a mattress hit his motorcycle in Brisbane.

Aaron Wood of Ipswich, Queensland was going 80km/h in the Clem 7 tunnel when the mattress flew from the back of a truck travelling in front of him.

A video of the incident was caught on one of the tunnel’s cameras.

The man was riding along after the ute carrying the mattress before trouble struck.
He was forced to ride straight through the falling mattress.

Mr Wood said with no time to stop or avoid debris he thought he was going to die.

"The mattress went under the bike and flipped me up onto my front wheel for about 50m," he told The Queensland Times.

It was too late for the rider to avoid the falling object.
He says he was fearful for his life.

"I was lucky that the bloke behind me had time to stop and help.

"When I stopped I realised I had torn the grips right off the handlebars - I thought I was a goner for sure.

"I have been riding for 20 years and never had something like this happen."

Mr Wood said luckily people stopped to help him.
He says he counts himself lucky not to have been more seriously injured.

It is unknown if the driver of the truck knew about the mattress.

"I was just very lucky to come out unscathed - apart from some cuts to my hands," Mr Wood said.

"The police are amazed that I am alive."
