Internet erupts over subtle detail at Trump press conference
Social media has erupted after picking up on a subtle detail during Donald Trump’s first press conference since losing the election earlier this month.
Trump, who didn’t take any questions from the press, was described by many as looking defeated and downcast compared to his usual pugnacious self.
But there was one detail in particular about Trump’s appearance that was seized on by many viewers – the colour of his hair.
Renowned for having a yellow tinge to his famous combover, the 74-year-old president’s hair had turned decidedly grey.
It prompted many viewers to speculate about what had happened to one of politics’ most recognisable hairdos as social media was flooded with comments and jokes about the president’s once golden locks.
A sign of acceptance, perhaps? Or had the demands of running the world’s biggest economy finally caught up to him?
One journalist jokingly tweeted “it appears Donald Trump’s hair dye has conceded”.
“The person who dyes Donald Trump's hair yellow must have found another job,” anti-gun activist Shannon Watts tweeted.
Another viewer said it looked like Trump had “aged four years in one week” during the US election, while others wondered if something was wrong with their TV.
“It looks like Trump let Four Seasons Total Landscaping do his hair today,” another joked, referring to the now infamous location of an election press conference held by Trump lawyers last week.
Another woman jokingly suggested Trump “probably thinks he can pass for Biden if he stops dying his hair”.

This whole speech is giving me a slightly out of body experience. Hair colour changed. Noticeably whiter. But the voice and the speed of delivery is the same. #Trump

Trump’s haircut has often copped the brunt of jokes over the years but to his credit, the US President has shown a sense of humour about it.
In 2016, during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the host asked Trump if he could mess up his hair.
“The answer’s yes, but the people in New Hampshire where I’m going to be in about an hour from now – I hope they’re going to understand,” Trump told Fallon before the host ran his hands through his locks.
A book released in 2018 by journalist Michael Wolff titled Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House claimed to have an explanation behind Trump’s hair obsession.
Citing Trump’s daughter Ivanka as a source, the book claims most of Trump’s hair at the front and sides is combed to the centre and swept back before it’s stiffened with a spray.

It’s also claimed Trumps has undergone scalp reduction surgery – a procedure which sees parts of the scalp containing hair stretched to allow for more hair growth over balding parts.
The procedure is used to counter baldness. As for the yellow hair colour, it’s claimed the outgoing president uses Just For Men hair dye.
Trump has also shot down suggestions he wears a wig. He tweeted in 2013, “my hair may not be perfect but it’s mine”.
In typical Trump fashion he also tweeted anyone claiming he wears a rug on his head “is another sad and lonely hater and loser”.
