An Instagram influencer with millions of followers has been found dead in her apartment in an apparent murder-suicide, Texas police say.
Jenae Gagnier’s body was discovered in her unit in Richmond, just outside of Houston, Texas around 4.30pm on Sunday (local time) by officers performing a welfare check, local publication KHOU-11 reports.
The body of 34-year-old Kevin Alexander Accorto, from Florida, was also found in her home.
Richmond police said the pair were not known to each other and that they suspect Accorto killed the 33-year-old, who went by the name Miss Mercedes Morr on social media, before taking his own life.
“At this point in the investigation, it is not believed that there was a relationship between the suspect and the victim,” Richmond Police Public Information Officer Lieutentant Lowell Neinast said in a news release, the Houston Chronicle reports.
“The cause of death for both individuals is pending autopsy results from the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner.
“At this point, this is being considered a murder/suicide and it is an ongoing investigation to determine motive in the case.”
The Fort Bend County Medical Examiner has since ruled that Ms Gagnier was strangled and Accorto had died after suffering from “multiple sharp force trauma”, KHOU-11 reports.
Police say there was no signs of forced entry at the apartment, where the 33-year-old’s worried dad was waiting when police arrived.
Officers say family members had called for a welfare check after not hearing from the influencer.
Sister says influencer had a 'stalker'
Ms Gagnier had 2.7 million followers on Instagram including celebrities like Snoop Dogg and Cardi B.
She also had thousands of followers on Twitter and Facebook.
Her older sister London took to social media to pay tribute to her sister after learning of her death.
“Yesterday was the worst day of my life... my heart is gone. My soul is gone,” she posted on Instagram.
London said she and their mum had talked to Ms Gagnier just three days earlier and that she was “having an amazing time”.
