Terrifying moment toddler wanders onto main road in front of truck

A fast-acting truck driver has pleaded with parents to know where their children are at all times after he found a two-year-old boy wandering onto a major NSW road.

The driver was making his way down Stacey Street in Bankstown just after 4pm on Monday when he saw the lone toddler strolling across the road with his back turned to oncoming traffic.

Without hesitation, he stopped his vehicle in the middle of the road and made his way over to the runaway child.

Dashcam footage shows the driver hopping out of his truck and making his way over to the boy, looking in every direction for his parents.

He said they eventually emerged and were visibly shaken at what had unfolded.

“They were in shock to find me blocking a main road and holding their 2-year-old son,” he said.

“Please, parents always know where your children are.”

The driver was inundated with praise from social media users for acting so quickly.

“My heart sunk, good job Matty, so glad it was you and not someone that may have taken him,” one viewer wrote.

“I’d hate to think wat might have happened if u didn’t see him,” another wrote.
