Incredible detail in model's catwalk outfit after sexual assault

An aspiring young model has gained attention after making a statement about sexual assault by wearing the same outfit on the runway that she had had on the day she fought off a terrifying attack.

Martina Evatore, a 20-year-old biochemistry student from Padua in Italy, has spoken out about supporting victims of sexual violence.

So she chose the same clothes she had been wearing three years earlier when she was groped on the way to a friend's birthday party.

Martina told how she was assaulted around midnight on 29th June, 2019, and fought back furiously.

The attacker had tried to get his hands under her jacket as she kicked and punched him after he pushed her into a gate.

"My father taught me to always defend myself," she told local media.

The day after the incident, Ms Evatore went to police with her mother and gave a formal complaint about the attacker, who she estimated was around 35 to 40 years old.

"A girlfriend told me that if you dress a certain way, you're looking for it," she recalled.

"But I was wearing a pair of pants and a zipped-up jacket."

Ms Evatore's runway look for Miss Venice Beach - a fashion contest designed by an ex-beauty queen - consisted of a camouflage jacket, a black T-shirt, a pair of trousers and white trainers.

"There are no encouraging gestures or clothes, there are only men who feel authorised to harass you," she stated.

The young woman was sent to the finals of the competition, which will be judged in September.

"Participating in the competition gave me confidence. I was very anxious, and instead everything went well."

With 63.8 out of 100 points, Italy ranks 14th in the European Union on the Gender Equality Index, despite recent gains, that is 4.2 points lower than the EU average, according to the latest report in 2021.

"Italy is progressing towards gender equality at a faster pace than other EU Member States. Its ranking has improved by eight places since 2010," the European Institute for Gender Equality says.
