'I'm not sorry': Driver leaves racist note on woman's car after crashing into it
A Brisbane driver who reportedly hit an elderly indigenous woman’s car has sparked outrage after following up the bingle with an extremely malicious note.
The handwritten note started by taking blame for the crash which took place near the Chermside Shopping Centre earlier this week, before it quickly launched into a “reprehensible” rant.
“I’m writing this note because I hit your car,” the note read.
“You have an Aboriginal sticker on your car so the Government probs paid for it out of my taxes.”
“Happy Australia Day. I’m not sorry as well.”
They signed off the letter with “2019 One Nation”.
A photo of the response was shared online by a woman claiming to be the victim’s granddaughter, who she said is suffering from terminal cancer.
“She’s worked all her life and adopted kids from all cultures,” her granddaughter wrote.
“She’s a proud Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara woman and ashamed this treatment is still happening to her even after being part of the Stolen Generation.”
Frustrated social media users echoed her sentiment, urging the shopping centre to track down the CCTV to find the author of the note.
“This is absolutely disgusting, if it wasn’t bad enough that this person damaged someone else’s property, they then thought leaving an offensive note would be a good idea?” one woman wrote.
“It’s offensive and I hope that karma comes back to bite them.”
“I hope the woman who had to confront this note on her car is alright. It is an appalling indictment of its author,” another wrote.
