IKEA praised for allowing stray dog to sleep in store during storm

An IKEA store has been being praised for allowing stray dogs inside during a storm.

Shopper Vittoria Gabrielli shared video of a dog sleeping on rugs inside an IKEA store in Italy on Facebook. Another dog is seen laying behind it.

Ms Gabrielli labelled it a “good initiative” and added it was a store in Catania in the country’s southeast.

An IKEA Italy spokesperson told ABC News the store has “always” been sensitive to animal issues and welfare with straying a “widespread problem”.

“Specifically, this problem has been affecting our store in Catania for quite some time now, as there are many stray dogs who are normally hanging around the car park outside the store,” the spokesperson said.

The video has more than 1.1 million views on Facebook with many praising IKEA.

One user suggested the store take it a step further and build kennels in the parking lot and offer the dogs water.
