Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt has been forced to apologise to a Northern Territory mayor after a meeting during which he treated her "boorishly and arrogantly", News Limited newspapers report.
Katherine mayor Fay Miller met with the minister in Canberra last December to discuss a health package for her town after chemical contamination from nearby RAAF Base Tindal.
Ms Miller told the Herald Sun Mr Hunt acted aggressively towards her during the meeting and she had written to both him and to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull seeking an explanation and an apology.
But it was only after the newspaper submitted questions to the minister and Mr Turnbull on Wednesday that Mr Hunt phoned Ms Miller.
The minister's office told the paper Mr Hunt had "apologised directly to the mayor for any language which may have caused offence" but denied he had behaved aggressively.
