A mystery triple-0 caller is being hunted by police as they seek to piece together what led to a fatal hit and run crash in Wollongong.
Several people reported seeing an injured man at Corrimal shortly after 2am on Friday, August 12.
A 48-year-old with critical injuries, believed to have been caused by a car, was then found by police.
The man was taken to hospital, where he later died.
Police are searching for a mystery man who called triple-0 from a payphone about 15km from the crash zone 10 minutes after the collision, who may be able to shed light on how the pedestrian died.
Officers are also on the lookout for a dark coloured Ford Territory observed at the scene.
