Hunt for 'cruel' shooter after kangaroo found with arrow in back

Police are hunting for a “cruel” shooter after a kangaroo was spotted with an arrow pierced through its back in Victoria.

Police shared a photo of the injured animal with its mob on Friday in Bradleys Lane, North Warrandyte, and said wildlife volunteers are trying to find it to give veterinary treatment.

Police were called today after a young adolescent kangaroo was spotted with its mob with what appears to be an arrow through its back,” officers said in a Facebook post.

The photo was taken by local Nancy O’Brien, who said she didn’t realise the animal had an arrow through it until she went through her camera roll.

“I couldn’t believe what I saw, it was incredibly distressing and heartbreaking,” she told the Herald Sun.

“These kangaroos in my backyard and we have gotten to know them over the years. I recognised the one who was shot with the arrow.”
