Police have found human remains in Melbourne's south east they believe may be connected to a missing persons case.
Detectives from the missing persons squad made the discovery in a semi-rural area near Nixon Road at Lysterfield about 1:30pm on Wednesday.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the matter is being treated as suspicious, with forensic testing underway.
"The exact circumstances regarding the incident are yet to be determined, however police believe it is likely to be connected to a current missing persons case," she said.
Police do not believe the remains are linked to investigations into missing campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay, or missing Lakes Entrance man Dale Pantic.
