Human leg found on beach 'may be from shark attack'

Human remains discovered on a beach on the New South Wales mid-north coast have prompted a police investigation.

A NSW Police spokesperson confirmed to Yahoo New Australia police were called to North Beach at Mylestom, south of Coffs Harbour, shortly after 2pm on Tuesday.

The police were called to the beach after a member of the public came across a human leg on the beach.

At this stage police do not know how the human leg came to be on the beach, according to AAP.

The spokesperson also confirmed Coffs-Clarence Police District officers remained at the scene and the investigation was ongoing.

The remains appeared to be two fully intact bones with a surfer or diver bootie on the end, according to Nine News.

Police also reportedly said the remains were most likely a result of a shark attack.

A resident overheard investigators and told The Sydney Morning Herald it had been suggested “it’s been in the water for quite some time”.
