Hugh Sheridan announces split from fiancé Kurt Roberts: 'We tried'
Hugh Sheridan has taken to Instagram to share that they have split with fiancé Kurt Roberts in a heartbreaking post where they say they "tried" to make things work.
The Packed to the Rafters star shared that Covid restrictions, work, their father's recent death and being in the public eye put too much pressure on the relationship.
"Today, I should’ve been landing in a couple of hours in Sydney to surprise my best friend," the 36-year-old began. "Happy Birthday to one of the most beautiful people on earth inside and out @kurtroberts_ you are an angel and I wish you all to the love and happiness you deserve. As you know, a year ago I came out as a human, two weeks later got cancelled, then in the darkness found light in Kurt."
Hugh and Kurt got engaged earlier this year after three months of dating.

They continued, "I did a horrific job when I proposed to you on the couch at our home… So I tried to make up for it and surprised someone who deserved better. In retrospect, having a first public relationship, that public, that fast, might’ve been too much pressure on us.
"Maybe it was COVID or quarantines or us working too hard (I take the blame for full responsibility for the working hours), maybe it’s dad's death or all the above. The point is Kurt is incredibly kind, someone who is earnestly caring and helped me through a very tough time."
Hugh continued, saying that despite the pair's split, he didn't think it would be right to not share a birthday message for Kurt, who they described as "an amazing and caring human".
"...Transparency is what I promised you all. For now we didn’t make it, but we tried very, very hard, I’m so sorry for us that it wasn’t easy and I’m sorry for the added pressure. Lots learned, the heartache is heavy, but zero regrets for the greatest love. Bless you dear Kurt you beautiful human and thank God for [your] birthday today, without you I wouldn’t be. X love shoosie."
Kurt commented on the post, writing, "You are the most beautiful, most kind, wonderful, generous, thoughtful Hughman being. I’m sad we didn’t get to celebrate together. Thank you for the beautiful message and I wish you all the love and happiness in the world."
Hugh responded, "And I’m sorry, I’m glad you’re ok I wrote this, I just didn’t know how to tell everyone. Have the best of everything, I wish you nothing but love always. H."
"Zero regrets and thank you for the beautiful memories we shared together," Kurt said.
Hugh revealed they are non-binary in June, saying they're attracted to both men and women.
During an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald earlier this year, Hugh shared they weren't "opposed to meeting a girl, but it just so happened I met a guy".
"I've dated both genders. I don't label myself as anything but human," they added.
