A Remembrance Day memorial has been inundated with poppy donations from around the world, organisers have said.

In June, the Royal British Legion (RBL) appealed for people in Skegness to create flowers for a display around the town's landmark clock tower.

Since the campaign started, volunteers said they had received creations from as far away as Hong Kong, Bermuda and Canada.

Tracey Turner, from the RBL, said the reaction to the idea has been "incredible".

She added: "They have been coming in their droves. Holidaymakers have brought them, the local community has really got behind it.

"The whole thing is breathtaking."

The group said it has enough poppies to cover six, 9sq m nets, which will be placed on the roundabout at Tower Esplanade.

The poppies will be on display for a month from the second week of October.

A wall of poppies hangs in a room. The bright red flowers have been stitched to a green net and completely covers the wall.

Multiple volunteers have worked on the display at the Hildred Centre in Skegness. One woman described how she said "thank you as she put each poppy up".

She added: "Each one represents a generation that died and even though there are thousands it doesn't cover the number of people we've all lost.

"It is so important for us to remember and pay our respects."
