It led to the closure of all westbound lanes with traffic queued back 7.5 kilometres.

A NSW Police spokeswoman told Yahoo7 one person was trapped in one of the five cars but has since been freed.

“It’s my understanding they only suffered minor injuries,” she said.

“They’ve been transported to Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment.”

Live Traffic Sydney tweeted at 6.30pm that the lanes re-opened but “traffic is heavy back through the Lane Cove Tunnel”.

It advised to allow extra travel time or to use Epping Road instead.
