A monstrous 600-kilogram crocodile has been nabbed in the Northern Territory after eluding rangers for 10 years.

The 4.7-metre male saltwater croc was caught in the Katherine River in the Northern Territory on Monday afternoon.

NT Parks and Wildlife wrote on Facebook the reptile was removed “to help prevent human interaction in the more populated areas”.

Ranger John Burke told Sunrise crocodiles removed from the river system were on average about 4.2 metres long.

“Although this is the biggest we’ve caught in the Katherine River, there are bigger ones out there that come up from the Daly River,” he added.

The croc has been relocated to a local crocodile farm.
