GREYHOUND INDUSTRY REFORM PANEL'S KEY RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Set up an independent integrity body, which can obtain and use evidence from covert surveillance, to oversee the industry

  • Split Greyhound Racing NSW to separate commercial and regulatory functions

  • Greyhounds to be registered and tracked for their entire lives

  • Mandatory life bans for live baiting or other serious animal cruelty offences

  • Greyhounds euthanised only if a vet determines it's in the dog's best interests

  • Better track safety standards, including more straight track racing and reduced field sizes

  • Restrictions on keeping small animals on properties with greyhounds

  • Accreditation scheme for owners, breeders, rearers, educators and trainers

  • Extra government funding to help employ more compliance inspectors

  • Statutory review of new regime by mid-2020
