How man's pub lunch led to him becoming a millionaire

An Adelaide man is still overwhelmed after his trip to the pub for Sunday lunch resulted in him winning over $1 million.

The man from Adelaide’s Croydon Park said he decided he would play “a bit of Keno” while he was out for lunch at the Challa Gardens Hotel on February 23, however he didn’t initially realise he had won a Keno 10 Spot prize worth $1,301,565.70.

“I was in a different part of the hotel at the time, so I didn’t see the numbers come up on the screen,” the man told The Lott.

The manager alerted patrons someone at the hotel had won, the man then decided to check his ticket, and the counter staff started “running around” once they realised he had won.

“It was very surreal,” he said.

The man is still overwhelmed by the news, and admits he is still trying to digest the fact he is now a millionaire.

“I don’t know if the news has sunk in yet,” he said.

“I’m not really sure how I will spend it other than helping my family and friends. I’m going to get financial advice from the bank so I can make the win work for me when I get paid.”

The man is a regular customer at the Challa Gardens Hotel, which was very exciting for hotel manager Tony Frangie.

“Everyone at the hotel is extremely happy that a local and a regular to the hotel scored a major prize,” he said.

“It was a great atmosphere in the hotel when we realised we had a winner. There were plenty of drinks being had in the front bar.

Mr Frangie said this was the biggest Keno win the hotel had ever seen.

To win a Keno Spot 10 prize, the player must pick ten numbers, all of which must match up with the 20 which are drawn from a possible 80 each game.
