Hospital computer systems in Victoria down after suspected hacking attack

Computer systems at some Victorian hospitals have been hacked in a suspected ransomware attack.

Gippsland Hospital and Barwon Hospital are among those affected, with the latter facility's entire network down since about 4pm on Monday afternoon, 3AW radio reports.

"We have been advised of some computer-type issues and we certainly are looking into what's behind it," a spokesman for the Department of Health and Human Services told AAP on Tuesday.

A statement made by the Department and Cabinet on Tuesday said at this stage there is no suggestion personal patient information has been accessed.

“The Victorian Government takes all cyber risks seriously and is working with the impacted health services, Victoria Police and the Australian Cyber Security Centre to manage the incident,” the statement said.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with the extent of the impact currently unknown.
