A horse walks into a bar ... and everyone runs

Patrons enjoying a quiet drink at a betting bar in the French town of Chantilly, north of Paris, were forced to jump to their feet and flee the venue when a bucking horse stormed in.

The terrifying sight, captured on CCTV, shows pub-goers running in panic, trying to scramble away from the frightened animal’s path.

The horse’s trainer, Jean-Marie Beguigne, told local reporters the horse had abandoned her rider at nearby stables and bolted about 1.5km down the street.

Mr Beguigne said the horse was known to run away, but it was “exceptional” that it had made its way as far as the tavern.

“Between the track and the stables, her rider fell off. The filly escaped by going on to the road, and crossing a roundabout before entering this bar. It is all quite exceptional,” he told Ouest France newspaper.

Stephane Jasmin, who owns the Chantilly PMU bar, shared the security camera footage to YouTube on Friday.

“She pushed the door open, and raced straight for the betting corner,” Ms Jasmin said.

“Then the filly turned around, breaking a table and chairs. We’ve never seen anything like it.”

Fortunately there were reportedly no injuries to the patrons or horse as a result of the four-legged pub-goer charging in.
