Horse rescued after getting stranded in deep water at the beach

A horse has become stuck out at sea after becoming separated from her owner on an Adelaide beach.

The mare and her owner were walking in the water at Moana Beach when they were hit by a wave, causing the owner to lose her grip on the reigns.

The horse ended up swimming out to sea with a bystander’s photo showing just how far she swam; her head just a tiny dot in the ocean.

Luckily, with the help of brave swimmers and several dinghies, she was eventually led back to shore.

Video shows the moment the mare arrived back at the beach, running past her rescuers to dry land.

Facebook users who watched the video said it’s lucky there were people around to help.

“Quite a number of horses have drowned out in the ocean under similar circumstances,” one woman wrote.

“They cannot see over the horizon and lose direction.”

“Thank goodness for a happy ending,” another woman commented.
