Horrifying moment police officer on motorcycle hit by 'stolen' car

Shocking body camera video shows the moment a police officer in Queensland was hit by an allegedly stolen car.

The officer, who was on a motorcycle, spotted the vehicle running a red light in Toowoomba, west of Brisbane, on Wednesday night.

When he tried to intercept the car, the driver allegedly crossed onto the wrong side of the road before driving directly at the officer and hitting him.

In the footage released by police, the sergeant calls for help after impact.

“941, I’m down, I’m down. He’s run into me,” the officer can be heard saying, adding he could not use his left arm.

The 50-year-old sergeant suffered a dislocated left shoulder, and rib, hand and ankle injuries.

Police tweeted the officer was recovering in hospital and was in good spirits.

A second officer was assaulted and bitten on the arm while arresting the driver a short time later.

A 29-year-old man is in hospital under police guard.

His passengers, a 20-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, were arrested without incident.

They are facing charges including armed robbery after they allegedly went to a Mount Lofty home earlier in the evening, threatened a resident with a knife and then stole his car.

They will face Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Thursday.
