Horrific videos show young man throwing pet rabbit at ceiling and off balcony

WARNING, DISTRESSING CONTENT: Authorities are looking to track down the perpetrator of a shocking act of animal cruelty towards a pet rabbit.

Disturbing footage emerged on Facebook this week of a young male appearing to fling a white rabbit against the ceiling of a roofed patio area before it drops to the floor and scurries off.

People can be heard laughing when the animal hits the verandah’s ceiling.

The incident is believed to be in Melbourne’s western suburbs and is understood to have happened in the last two weeks before being circulated on Snapchat.

Another video has since come to light of the same rabbit being dropped from a first floor balcony.

The young male can be heard shouting “bye bye” as the animal falls.

Remarkably the rabbit survives the fall and impact with the concrete below and runs out of sight.

The videos were uploaded to animal rights Facebook page Melbourne Pig Save and were met with a wave of comments slamming the cruel acts.

“As a bunny owner I can’t tell you how upsetting it is to see this,” one comment read.

RSPCA Victoria Inspectorate Team Leader Karen Collier told Yahoo News they are actively seeking the people involved in the incidents.

“RSPCA Victoria has been made aware of disturbing footage depicting the mistreatment of a rabbit,” she said.

“RSPCA Victoria Inspectors are seeking further information from the public to help identify the persons involved and ascertain where and when the incident took place.”

Ms Collier urged anyone with any information on the location of the incident or those involved to make a report via rspcavic.org or call 9224 2222.

“Deliberate cruelty towards an animal is highly illegal. It is an offence under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986 to commit an act with the result that unreasonable pain or suffering is caused to an animal,” she said.

She also noted that anyone who is found guilty of such an act can face fines up to $40,297.50 or 12 months imprisonment.
