A 24-year-old man has been accused of murdering his girlfriend after he was allegedly pulled over in a car with her body stuffed in a bag.

Michael Louis Cadogan, from the US state of North Carolina, allegedly strangled his girlfriend, Gianna Rose Delgado, during an argument, according to court documents.

The court documents further state Cadogan called a friend and admitted to strangling Ms Delgado.

Cadogan asked the friend for help in disposing of Ms Delgado’s body.

During a later call between Cadogan and the friend, who was at the Kingsport Police Department, the friend agreed to meet Cadogan at a marina in Carter County in Tennessee to put Ms Delgado’s body and car in Watauga Lake.

A police lieutenant listened in on the call, officials said.

A Carter County sheriff’s deputy spotted and stopped Cadogan, who was driving Ms Delgado’s car, near the marina, authorities said.

Ms Delgado’s body was found inside the car.

Cadogan is charged with first-degree murder, concealment of death and tampering with a corpse.

He is being held without bond in Tennessee and there’s been no word on his possible extradition back to North Carolina.

Ms Delgado’s dad Ricardo paid tribute to his daughter on Facebook.

“My little girl, my baby, my everything is gone,” he wrote.

“We all called her Gia. I still call my little worm. She made me very proud and I love her with all my heart and soul.”
